Communication.

Community. Creation.

These are the three core principles of my campaign. When elected to council I will improve communication, strengthen the community, and encourage creation.

SAM MARCELLINO ON THE ISSUES…

COMMUNICATION
Upon being elected to City Council, I plan on improving communication between the city and its residents.

Bexley is made up of wonderful citizens who, for the most part, want to be involved. At the very least, citizens want to know what is going on and when it is happening. When I am elected to council, I will work to improve the channels of communication between citizens and city officials.

The best way to lead this city is to listen to the residents, and I will work to improve that. As a lawyer, the majority of my job is listening to my client’s problems or concerns and finding a solution. I will use this same approach when working with citizens as a member of city council.

Additionally, I will work to ensure that we are using all available channels of communication to reach citizens. Whether it be written correspondence, email, social media, or otherwise. I will listen to citizens to better understand how they consume news and information - then adapt. What good is a message if we are unable to deliver it?

COMMUNITY
When elected to City Council, I plan on strengthening the community.

Community Policing

Our community is close-knit. Many families have been here for generations, went to high school together, or know each other through other community involvement. However, how many citizens could name 3 law enforcement officers by first and last name? My guess is not many.

I do not point this out to assign blame. However, I point it out because it is a reality that I aim to fix. I plan on working with the Bexley Police and community leaders to improve relations in our community. Improving communication and community policing will help drive Bexley forward.

Community Participation

As stated in the ‘Communication’ section above, we are fortunate to have so many wonderful people who truly care about this community. However, one should not have to run for public office to have their voice heard. When elected to council, I will work to strengthen communication between elected officials, city employees, and community leaders.

By improving these relations, it will encourage greater community participation. While it is impossible to make every citizen happy, it is imperative to listen to every interested party. Therefore, I will work with my fellow council members to create more opportunities for community participation.

Improving Safety Around Parks, Playgrounds and Schools

One of my favorite things to do is sit with friends, family or a furry friend on a porch and watch the world pass by. Unfortunately, many of these wonderful evenings will include a vehicle traveling too fast in an area that is densely packed with children and families. As a member of council, I will work with Bexley’s Service & Public Infrastructure Department, Parks & Recreation Department, and School Board to ensure that all potential safety measures are being utilized to their fullest extent.

CREATION
After I am elected to city council I will work with leaders and developers to encourage creation and development throughout our city.

Bexley is a landlocked city. As a result, we need to be creative in order to continue the city’s growth and development. When elected to council I will work with city leaders and local businesses to attract new and diverse establishments to Bexley. Just because we are landlocked, does not mean we can’t grow.
